How long will it take me to learn?

What benefits are there to learning music?

Training in tabla is designed to be an embodied practice, connecting your intentions with music and helping you discover your own methods of creativity, concentration and self control. Providing much-needed breaks from a busy lifestyle, regular musical sessions are beneficial for your mental health and can help you recognise different perspectives. The taal-laya system of Indian classical music has been a subject used in India over the centuries, to help children build self-discipline, patience, and focus.

Is there a certification programme?

Yes. Students are able to achieve a Diploma in tabla from Sa Dha Arts, an organisation affiliated with Pracheen Kala Kendra music institute in India.

Do I need my own pair of Tabla?

You will need your own set of tabla to learn how to play. If needed, one set can be shared in a household. Please get in touch if you need help acquiring your own.You do not need a table for online theory courses.

Do I have to sit on the floor?

Most of us can sit on the floor for much longer than we think, but if sitting cross-legged is difficult you can try propping the tabla up on a coffee table and sit on a chair. Alternatively, you can join an online course and enjoy a new genre of music in a different way.
